Sage x Palo Santo Smudging
EAT X SLEEP X WORKOUT X SAGE. + VOGUE.COM.
I was reading Vogue.com the other day & I love how many articles they have about crystals. They have been talking about how they are the in thing right now and one particular article caught my eye about smudge sticks. Sage has been popular for a while and now Palo Santo sticks are all in as well.
SAGE X Smudge sticks
Colleen McCann was quoted in Vogue to share the science behind it as well which I love.
’Simply put, sage clears bacteria in the air. Sage smoke offers rapid delivery to the brain and efficient absorption to the body. Scientists have observed that sage can clear up to 94% of airborne bacteria in a space and disinfect the air. When sage is burned, it releases negative ions, which is linked to putting people in a positive mood.’
She says that ‘burning sage is one of the oldest and purest methods of cleansing a person, group of people, or space. The practice dates back to prehistoric times and it’s been documented as having been used in every corner of the world by our ancestors ‘
I love hearing about the history behind it all as well as the science.
If your sage won’t stay lit then loosen the string around it a bit so the oxygen can get in.
PALO SANTO X Smudge sticks
Known in Spanish as Palo Santo, it is a wild tree native to Mexico and the Yucatan Peninsula to Puru and Venezuela. It’s name literally means Holy wood. When it is burned, the smoke is believed to have both medicinal and therapeutic healing power. Traditionally it is burned by Incas, Shamans and medicine people for purifying, energy cleansing and healing.
